Halloween!

Halloween 2010 at Herb’s Tavern . I went into the tavern to check out the costumes and thought to my self, what am I doing? I should be taking pictures of this stuff, and ran to my car for the camera. I chose my Canon 50mm f1.4 lens thinking about  that shallow depth of field I get when combined with the full frame sensor of my 5DMk2. I didn’t want to use a strobe so I set the ISO to 6400 hoping for the best. It was pretty dark in there and my auto focus was almost completely useless, so I resorted to manually focusing on these moving and dancing subjects as I was jostled around the dance floor all the while trying to deal with that super shallow depth of field, fun stuff. I love how lights in the background bloom and the copious blur making subjects “pop” from their fore/background. I shot these as large JEPEGs and they are straight out of the camera with no noise reduction added what so ever in post.

Time lapse shoot on the Samish River, Washington.

Noticing some very cool cloud formations forming over the local mountains here, I grabbed my camera, some of the local Blau Oysters, some beer and headed to my favorite salmon stream to shoot some time lapse. This is the first test of the Zeiss 21mm f2.8 lens on my Canon 5D MkII for time lapse and I was just a little bit anxious. I set my intervalometer to record an image every 20 sec. and clicked away for about 5 hours. I’ll post the movie as soon as it is ready.
